Our blog
Sheltering Tree blog focuses on humanitarian and social justice issues, especially genocide and crimes against humanity; civilian protection; and peace, justice and reconciliation.
Our blog generates and shares advocacy appeals, while highlighting filmmakers, musicians, authors and other artists who are giving voice to those who most need to be heard.
Jenni Parmalee edits the blog from the Rockport, Maine, offices of Sheltering Tree, a creative communications studio that helps nonprofits and other human-service organizations tell their stories.
Sheltering Tree
Jenni Parmalee believes that story has the power to transform.
The idea for Sheltering Tree first unfolded during work on a film school documentary short, “The Distance to Darfur,” while Jenni was interviewing survivors of genocide who had resettled in New England.
The process of individuals sharing their most painful and personal experiences in an attempt to protect others from similar harm touched everyone involved in immeasurable ways. After the film was screened, audience members spoke of feeling connected to the survivors in ways they did not expect; they felt moved to act.
A lifelong student of story, Jenni combines a foundation in journalism and a background in creative communications to help individuals and organizations connect through narrative — in print, on the web and in film.
Our new website
Our next-generation presence will launch later this month, right about the time that the bright crocus begin to emerge from the melting snow. We know you’re psyched, and we can’t wait to share it.
Thank you for your interest in Sheltering Tree.
